Thank you for reminding me why I love traveling and what is most important in this thing called life. The world changes but the important things are forever!!!

If I could rate the Baines' River Camp higher than "excellent," I would. The other camps I visited on my last African trip pale in comparison. The site above the Lower Zambezi is magnificent, and the cabins and lodge are beautifully decorated and maintained. The food is delicious. Far more important, the managers and staff could not have been more attentive. A spirit of kindness seems to hang in the air. Besides the wonderful game drives with Leonard, be sure and take the canoe trip so you can see up close the animals who come to the water to drink. I wish I could return tomorrow!

I still can't believe my incredibly good fortune of stumbling across your camp. Everything was absolutely perfect, everything. The staff (I cannot stress enough how superb they were), the build quality and furnishings of the main and accommodation lodges, the art, the comfortable and clean Land Cruiser, the practical boats and well maintained fishing equipment, the haute cuisine and last but by no means least, the acute attention to detail evident in all areas of the operation.
Although we had only eight nights in camp, not long as far as most holidays are concerned, I left feeling more rested and relaxed than I can remember. It is a holiday that I am not anticipating bettering, ever. Equalling, for sure, when I come back.
Nick Fergus, Dubai, April 2017

This was a top-notch experience! We all wish we could stay longer and know this will be a place we will visit again. Thank you for your wonderful service. I’ll always remember our dinner in the bush!
Karissa Wikert, Chicago IL, USA, October 2016

We have had an extraordinary time at Baines. The sights, staff & sounds are remarkable. Our sundowners were wonderful and the bush dinner a magical surprise. Thank you for giving us such a wonderful Lower Zambezi Bush Experience.
Gwen & Tom Rogers, Chicago IL, USA, October 2016

We have had our usual wonderful holiday. Four of us came to fish and we were delighted with our welcome back and the real efforts of all the staff to make us comfortable. Great credit to all of them and Debbie & Ben in particular. All round a great experience and we will be back.

Thank you so much to Debbie, Ben, Leonard, Luke and all those at Baines River Camp that made our stay so wonderful. What a spectacular setting combined with luxurious accommodations and fabulous and attentive service. None of us will ever forget our time here – fishing (and catching!) Tiger fish with the amazing sound of hippos all around, elephants walking through camp in the evening, getting a glimpse of an African village with the guides who grew up here, watching the elephants bathing and eating by the river’s edge, just all unforgettable memories. Thank you!!!
The Robinson Family, Kentfield, California, USA, August 2016

We just want to thank you all for an absolutely wonderful 3 days at Baines. We enjoyed every minute and can only say "WOW!" to a beautiful lodge, setting, meals and most of all the staff!!! The attention to detail and friendly faces and smiles have left us with great memories. Thanks to Luke, who kept us going from so early till late and for Stephen's 16lbs Tiger that he 'found' for us... We hope to see you all in future. Much love,

Baines River Camp’s attention to detail is amazing considering the remote location. After 24 hours of flying and airports we were greeted by our guide, Leonard’s beautiful smile while he handed us lightly perfumed towels to refresh ourselves. Leonard is one of the secret treasures of this camp; his quiet, careful manner coupled with an amazing knowledge and love of the wildlife, and his country in general, made our time spent with him very special. When we arrived at the lodge we were welcomed with a warmth that we have come to enjoy about Africa. Our accommodation was luxurious and the air-conditioning in the rooms offered great relief from the afternoon heat. Nothing was too much trouble in Baines River Camp, our hosts Ben and Debbie, ably aided by Phoebe, made sure all the activities suited what we were wanting. We never knew what to expect each day and each day was full of surprises, having lunch on the banks of the Zambezi River, dinner in the bush, canoeing in one of the channels and of course the beautiful game drives in the Lower Zambezi National Park which we accessed by boat while Leonard would drive the vehicle saving us the bumpy ride on the rough roads. My husband was delighted to catch his first ‘tiger’ fish.
The insulated steel bottles handed to us on arrival is an example of the small attention to detail that impressed us. Designed to keep the water cold for up to 8 hours they were a small but important convenience in the heat. They were filled frequently. The meals were well thought out and always healthy and delicious.

This was now my fourth visit to Baines' River Camp. So my review is short. It was a dream. TripAdvisor writes that I should write 200 lines. But there are moments that I cannot describe in words. My Tip? Go and experience it yourself!
Rainer Iding, Moscow, Russia, October 2015

Thomas Baines was an amazing artist, yet I think he would struggle to put the beauty, workmanship and splendour of Baines’ River Camp to canvas. A true gem on the Lower Zambezi!! A tru gem complete with a fantastic and thoroughly passionate staff complement. Great canoeing, great wildlife and even better fishing. 13.5 lbs to be exact!! Well done everyone. Keep up the good work and we will be back!
Andre Tennekoon & Michelle Buratto, Lusaka, Zambia, October 2015

Gourmet food, brilliant game, unbelievable sunsets, brilliant fishing and my best fish to date. Can't wait to come back here as it's a truly amazing place with a lovely atmosphere!
Leslie Denn, Harare, Zimbabwe, September 2015

Just back from Zambia on a 6 day special experience. I can’t tell you how satisfied I have been with the trip last week both in terms of the fishing but to my surprise the sheer beauty and intensity of the area. Without going on a land safari the alternative by river produced a wide variety of sightings sunup to sundown. Baines did an outstanding job and kudos go out to Debbie and Ben McCarthy and Phoebe for making me feel included and supported while there. I always felt like I had full choice and completely informed. The accommodations, lodge, food service and staff where above the best I have ever experienced and I have been to many places for both business and pleasure. I plan to return and would like to bring my family soon. Now for the fishing! As the pictures will attest to, the fishery was fantastic. The fish were everywhere, aggressive and eager to take flies and bait. I am thrilled to have caught a 14 lb. Tiger and a 22 lb. Vundu on Friday and wish I had figured it out earlier in the week, but that is fishing. I had an opportunity to get many fish on fly and bait and enjoyed both. Ben provided excellent advice, is an outstanding fly caster and fishing buddy, we have committed to stay in touch for future adventures.

Our second visit to Baines has only made us realise what a magical place it is and that we will have to return again! Thank you to everyone for making our few days here so memorable. Great fishing, park lunch, bush dinner etc. etc.. We look forward to meeting you all again.

This extraordinary property in combination with the pristine natural environment of the Lower Zambezi River along with its very talented staff makes Baines River Camp unique. Each day the magic unfolded. Staying at Baines River Camp there are no fences as it is part of a Game Management Reserve that borders the Lower Zambezi National Park. We got to see all the beauty and nature nearby. Each tour we took, we felt like we were the only people in the bush or on the River. We were close with elephants of all ages, hippos, impalas, zebras and more! This was truly a lifetime experience.
Jim & Mary Connell, North Carolina, USA, September 2015

What an amazing venue to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Everything was superb including the initial communication with Sabine, the owner, who could not have been more helpful, Debbie & Ben the managers who treated us more like family than guests, the wonderfully knowledgable and friendly guides, Leonard, Weston & Moses who made all of our activities truly special, all of the other staff in the camp who went about their daily routines to make our stay amazing, the stunning lodge & location and the amazing food. We will always treasure the time we spent here.
Paul & Jo-Anne Hynes, Crowborough, UK, September 2015

So many highlights and great memories gained from this beautiful riverside venue. Many, many thanks to Leonard and Moses for their brilliant guiding & fishing (a small thrill for me!). We loved hearing all about life in Zambia and enjoyed our chats with Debbie & Ben – our fantastic hosts. So many thanks,
John & Rosemary Neate, Sydney, Australia, August 2015

My stay at Baines River Camp exceeded every expectation. I will always recall the sense of excitement travelling down the river each morning with the overwhelming sense of anticipation of the majesty that the park would reveal that day. I long to be under African skies again soon and Baines River Camp will certainly feature in my next itinerary. I cannot praise Baines River Camp highly enough.
Nick Hale, Chorleywood, United Kingdom, August 2015

We stayed at Baines River Camp for four days and it as an unforgettable experience. The staff were so efficient and friendly; it was obvious that their main goal was to make our stay memorable. Debbie and Ben were superb hosts, great fun and extremely organized. We were a party of 14 and nothing rattled them - even the visiting elephant. The knowledge of all the guides was amazing (I was with Leonard and Moses) and they knew all the Latin names of the trees, plants and birds along with the common names. Sabine's organization prior to our arrival made the whole checking in procedure very quick and efficient. It was a vacation I know my family and I will never forget. Thank you very much Debbie, Ben and Sabine. We hope one day to be able to return.
Hilary Veilleux, USA, August 2015

After traveling halfway around the world, it was very refreshing to be greeted with warm hand towels and a refreshing beverage by our hosts!! From there it only got better! Elephants were waiting to greet us at our spacious bungalow overlooking the river. The meals were not only tasty they were very well presented. Each time we arrived back from safari there was a welcoming fire waiting to keep the evening chill away. Did I say safari!!! Wow... We did land a land safari: lions, elephants, hippopotamus, impala, crocodile, etc. The river safari was also outstanding with plenty of birds, & wildlife!!! All the guides were very knowledgeable. All the staff was very accommodating. It made the journey a most memorable one!!! I can hardly wait to return!!
Ross Veilleux, USA, August 2015

We booked the entire lodge for four nights to accommodate our family and friends for our daughter’s wedding held at Royal Zambezi lodge nearby. From our greeting at the airstrip to our reluctant farewells, we felt treated like special friends by our hosts Debbie and Ben McCarthy. We were treated to the entire range of activities – game drives, guided walks, fishing, village visit and canoeing and these were seamlessly interwoven with all the wedding festivities. Debbie had obviously spent so much time planning and coordinating all the activities, necessary transport and food arrangements with the manager of Royal, so there was absolutely nothing we had to think about except to enjoy the natural wonders of the Zambezi. Special thanks also go to Ben, who drove the last of our wedding revellers home to Baines at 4 am on the wedding night! I can’t thank you enough Debbie and Ben for making this milestone in our lives all the more memorable and wonderful. It was a truly unforgettable four days.
David and Judy Underhill, Wollongong, Australia, August 2015

We were here for 2 nights and sincerely wished we could have stayed on longer. Baines Camp has something very special about it that other camps I have been to so far have not been able to match. It’s a combination of a few things, the setting, the accommodation and the hospitality. The beautifully maintained gardens and the view across the Zambezi River have a calming effect even on the most stressed person I'm sure. The chalets are tastefully furnished, very comfortable and offer that bit of luxury you would look forward to after an exciting day on safari. The hospitality is amazing, both Debbie and Ben are fantastic hosts and we had the pleasure of their company all to ourselves as the two of us were the only guests in camp the two nights we spent there. The rest of the staff were also very friendly and attentive. All the meals we had were delicious. We really enjoyed our time at Baines and were very sad to leave, but there is always a next time and we will make that sooner rather than later.
Ajit St John, Melbourne, Australia, July 2015

Africa and Baines River camp are on my mind all the time. Such a beautiful and unforgettable place so well maintained. The scenery is beautiful, the food was awesome and the staff wonderful. I wish I could have spent a few days more to enjoy the luxury and tranquillity of the place. I would love to come back again. There's something magical about Africa that makes people go back...
Chantal Perera, Melbourne, Australia, July 2015

Thank you, thank you, thank you for an unforgettable experience. We were thoroughly spoilt in every aspect - your staff are amazing. You have created an unbelievably luxurious and tasteful camp in such a remote and wild location.
Stephen Gregory, Johannesburg, South Africa, June 2015

We have just had the most brilliant stay. The food was out of this world, the accommodation extremely comfortable and the staff really do go the extra mile to ensure our time here was nothing less than great! We had a great game drive and really enjoyable trips on the river. I would not hesitate to recommend Baines River Camp to anybody. Simply Outstanding!!!
James Clucas, Johannesburg, South Africa, October 2014

The experience delivered by Baines’ River Camp and their excellent team is unbeatable on the Zambezi River. The staff go the extra mile at every opportunity and provide a truly world-class African safari experience that goes beyond simply going on game drives. Luncheoning on the banks of the river, sundowners on the island, catching tiger fish and all accomplished with an attention to detail that is impossible to fault, it all makes for a superb holiday. Well done and I recommend Baines to anyone looking for an authentic African Safari with a difference.
Graham Moon, Johannesburg, South Africa, September 2014

We have just spent 3 wonderful nights with friends and family at Baines' and wish it had been a week! We enjoyed some great game drives - 12 lion, buffalo, elephant, lots of hippos and crocs, kudu, impala, bushbuck and plenty of birds. The fishing was excellent, and my son caught his first tiger fish (and a few more)! The bush lunch and dinner were the icing on the cake. Thank you so much to Debbie, Ben, Leonard, Luke and all the other staff for making our trip so special. An excellent time was had by all and we will definitely be back!
Cathy Glenn, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, July 2014

It is difficult to leave after such a wonderful visit & stay. What a beautiful place to spend time at. So much to do, see & experience. Debs, you are amazing! And Luke, you are the most patient, kind and fun person to teach us to fish! All of the people here at Baines are incredible. Thank you Amos and Akim for singing to me on my birthday. With lots of love and appreciation... We hope to be back soon.
Farrah Rees & Cyrann Castle, California, USA, September 2013

We don’t know how to properly thank you ALL for everything you have done to make our stay to very special. This is our second visit at Baines and we are so looking forward to the next! We will miss everything – delicious food, fun outings, fishing, game drives; all amazingly special. But most of all, we will miss our wonderful friends at Baines! Thank you, thank you!
Steve & Nancy Bareilles, California, USA, September 2013

I have experienced a wide spectrum of lodges throughout Southern/Central Africa. The difference with Baines’ River Camp is the ambiance that is a great part of the experience. I loved the mix of river and bush activities. The food and accommodation is 5 star and the staff from Ben & Debbie through all other members has made for a wonderful experience. For the jaded traveller who has done South Africa, I highly recommend Baines’ River Camp. Thank you for a superb time.
Roger Chadwick, Johannesburg, South Africa, September 2013

I hate to leave today! Tears in my eyes right now! We had the best time ever. Ben and Debbie are the most wonderful managers at any camp and the staff here is fabulous. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I will be back with a crowd of family and friends – be prepared!

I could go on and on but to sum this holiday up, a luxurious experience in a place of amazing natural beauty and wonder. This place is my piece of paradise and I will certainly be returning as have no need to try anywhere else now I have found this.
