Camp Facts

Power at the camp is supplied through a super-silent 240V generator which is operational during limited periods of the day. As is protocol in the Lower Zambezi Valley to minimise noise pollution, our generator is shut down soon after dinner. Power generation resumes in the morning and depends on the planned activities for that day. During the times that the generator is not operational, a battery operated inverter system will provide limited power in the guest accommodation and the main lodge. The inverter system will allow for the operation of bedside lights, bathroom lights and ceiling fans throughout the night. The air-conditioning in your suite only operates during the running hours of the camp’s generator.

Baines’ River Camp produces its own drinking water through a state of the art reverse osmosis plant. In addition, bottled water is available at all times.

In our guest suites you will find the following amenities and facilities:

  • Personal safe
  • Complementary mini-bar
  • Coffee and tea making facilities
  • Bathroom amenities: conditioning shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, hand soap, shower cap and a basic vanity kit
  • Hand wash powder for ladies’ smalls
  • Personal insect repellent spray and room insect spray.

Although cellular telephone reception is intermittent and only available in certain areas of the camp, our V-SAT system ensures that our guests can enjoy wireless internet connectivity anywhere in the main lodge area. All guests enjoy limited complimentary internet access per day during their stay. Thereafter, usage will be charged to your room.

The camp offers a same day return laundry service at no additional charge.

All guests are covered for medical evacuation by air to Lusaka in case of a life-threatening situation. Due to the fact that the closest airfield, the Royal Airfield, cannot accommodate landing at night, this emergency service is only operational during day light hours.

Camp management and all our guides are qualified in First Aid Administration.

All boats and vehicles are fitted with a mobile radio that will ensure contact with the camp.

For emergencies, the camp operates a satellite telephone.

At Baines' River Camp we can accommodate children from the age of 6. The Baines Cottage is ideal for young families. In addition, two of our Explorer Suites are positioned close together and close to the main lodge, offering a great alternative if the Cottage is not available. Our Junior Suites are popular with teenagers who prefer to have their own room. Children under the age of 15 are accommodated at 75% of the rates applicable to adults.

Now for the fishing! As the pictures will attest to, the fishery was fantastic. The fish were everywhere, aggressive and eager to take flies and bait. Ben provided excellent advice, is an outstanding fly caster and fishing buddy.
